Welcome to the school’s website. We hope you find it useful, interesting and informative. We try to make learning fun and hopefully this will be reflected in our website. Ferryside is a Voluntary, Primary, co-educational, daily school. Built in the year 1856, the grey stone building, typical of the Victorian era, is situated in the centre of the village which is some three miles from the town of Kidwelly and nine miles from the town of Carmarthen. Roughly the catchment area is St Ishmael’s Parishes, which includes Ferryside, Llansaint , Broadway and Broadlay.
Two classes are taught in the main building. Both classrooms, wider learning spaces and external areas are stimulating and colourful places where pupils can learn productively. There are two cabins at the reserve of the school. One is used as a canteen on the other contains two classrooms. These are used as multipurpose rooms, including a hall and resource centre. A Breakfast Club is held in the canteen on a daily basis. Ferryside Nursery Circle meets in the cabin on the school site every morning and You and I once a week. The After School Club meets two nights a week in the Caban.
Our external work and play area is developing permanently, with a grass area at the front of the school and flower and vegetable seeps, which also support our eco and healthy eating projects. The curriculum is being designed intently to raise pupils’ awareness of their local area.
The school provides a supportive and welcoming environment for pupils, in which they are
encouraged to be valued members of the school ‘family’.
Welsh culture, language and heritage is promoted and visitors and visits are used appropriately to enrich and extend pupils’ experiences.
